Gear Check / Results – Shift 1
Runners will place items in the gear bags and then place their gear bags in the large boxes set up behind the tables. These will be labeled by bib number spans so the participants should put their bib in the box that corresponds with their bib number. Volunteers will transport the gear bags back to inside the secure area where other volunteers will sort the bags by race number. Volunteers will need to keep the lines moving quickly by directing the runners in line to the next open tables. After the pre-race “rush”, the bags are put in numerical order and will then be handed out to participants coming to claim their bags after their race. Participants are required to show their race bib to claim their gear bag.
Bags will be sorted by around 8:30am. At 8:00am, 6 members of this crew will move to the Results Tent right outside the Commons at 4th & Washington while the others will remain in the Gear Check area.
Those in the Gear Check area will greet participants who have finished their event and return to them their gear bags when they show you their race bib with their bib number. (Race Bibs are required to give back a gear bag.)
Those moving to the Results/Awards Tent will provide “instant results” to participants – a very cool feature! There will be five printers with a volunteer at each one. Participants walk up and give their bib number, you enter the bib number in the computer and hit print, and their race results are printed instantly. If they won an Award it is shown on their print out so you give them their award on the spot! If they Qualified for the Boston Marathon, this will also be included in their printout!
